Ice Climbing European Cup Finals 2018

Oulu, Finland 24.-25.2.2018

The Climbing Club of Oulu and UIAA present the Ice Climbing European Cup Finals Oulu, Finland. The Finnish Ice Climbing National Championships also take place at the same time.

The event venue is located roughly 10 km from the center of Oulu. The event is free of charge to spectators. The competition is broadcasted live and the highlights can be viewed afterwards from the compilation video.

22 meters of vertical climbing. Both lead and speed competitions take place with separate series for men and women. The competition structure consists of 22 meters of vertical or slightly overhanging tower and a smaller tower. The towers are connected to each other by 13 meters long heavily overhanging section.

Two day battle. The qualifications will start on Saturday 24th of February at 7am, and finals take place on Sunday 25th from 9.30am onwards. Athletes should arrive, if possible, the evening before (i.e., Friday 23rd). Competitor ticket sale ends on Friday 23rd at 5pm (EET), and it is not possible to purchase the competition ticket on-site. The competition will be held according to UIAA Ice Climbing World Tour competition rules with slight modifications (1, 2, 3).

International route setters. Test climbers and route setters will be provided by Russian climbing equipment vendor Krukonogi. There will be international athletes and whole national ice climbing team of Finland present.

Program for the whole family. At the venue, there will be music and other entertainment for the audience. Kids can enjoy snow castle and slides, while adults can test their strength in the Ice Axe Hanging Contest. There’s food tents, public toilets, and plenty of parking space at the venue.

07:00 Competition office opens, registration begins. Registration ends at 7:20.
08:00-15:00 Lead climbing qualifications run for both routes (men and women).
15:00-18:00 Speed climbing qualifications run for both routes (men and women). Also Semifinals for Men.
20:00 Start lists for the finals will be published here.
19:00-01:00 Intermediate party and sauna for athletes, organizing staff, and spectators with Premium-/VIP-ticket at Johteenhovi.
09:45 Competition office opens.
10:30-15:30 Women's and Men's lead finale.
16:00-17:00 Women's and Men's speed finale (duel).
17:30-18:00 Award ceremony.
18:00-03:00 Official after party for the athletes, organizing staff, and spectators with the invitation at Oulun kiipeilykeskus (Climbing Centre of Oulu).

Athlete registration is done through ticketing system by purchasing competitor ticket.

Event is free of charge for spectators, but we encourage the audience to register to the event by getting a free ticket through Eventbrite. Please note that free tickets do not include the invitation to evening party or other side events. In addition, Premium and VIP tickets exist, which include plenty of other benefits as well.

Spectator VIP

Spectator VIP includes seat at the VIP stand, heated tent with premium food and a selection of drinks, as well as access to intermediate party and official after party (sauna, food, live DJ, etc.). In addition, it also includes a possibility to try ice climbing at the tower during the winter season 2017-2018 (instruction & gear included).

Competitor ticket includes the competition participation fee, warm lunch on both competition days, and access to intermediate party and official after party (sauna, food, live DJ, etc.). Competitors are also entitled to discounted accommodation (for more info, contact the organizers). Competitor ticket sale ends on Friday 23rd at 5pm (EET). It is not possible to buy the ticket on-site.
